About the Event

“One important key to success is self-confidence. An important key to self-confidence is preparation.”

The topic of puberty can be very challenging: What do I say? When is a good time to have the talk? Am I ready to have this conversation? How much information do I share? Will my daughter be prepared? Parents/Guardians with young girls have asked one or all of these questions, plus many more.

To answer the call of our mission, A Sista’s Touch will be hosting our 4th Edification workshop of our inagural program: A Sista’s Always Prepared: Puberty to Queen. As our young Black girls transition through puberty, we want to be sure they have the tools, support, and resources to flourish into their path toward Queendom through the cultivation of confidence and preparation.

Dr. Dannielle McBride, a Bay Area Pediatrician, will be sharing expert content with our young girls and their parents/guardians to elevate their state of preparation as they journey through this critical developmental stage. Not only is it important to have trusted sources in healthcare, it is also empowering to our young Sista's to see Pediatricians that look like them. Dr. McBride was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. She attended college at Sacramento City College and the University of California, Berkeley where she graduated with a B.S. in Molecular Environmental Biology and a minor in African American Studies. She went to medical school at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD and completed residency at the University of California, San Francisco Pediatric PLUS Program. She completed a Chief Year at the UCSF Pediatric Program and now works as a pediatrician in the Bay Area. Her areas of interest include adverse childhood experiences, trauma informed care, dismantling the school to prison pipeline, and issues around health equity and justice.

In addition to sharing space with Dr. McBride, you will also hear from our Youth Leaders, and participate in a hands-on workshop. As a result of the social distancing mandate and our transition to virtual programming, materials will be made availabe electronically and will also be mailed. Workshop kits and your ASAP feminine hygiene kit will be mailed to each participate before the program for those who register by February 15th.

>>>>>The program will start promptly at 12:30pm, so please log into Zoom no later than 12:25pm<<<<<

*A signed photo release is REQUIRED for all registered youth. Electronic Forms will be made available in your registration confirmation. Parents, please complete, sign, and email the forms by February 25th.

**Due to high demand of the program and limited spacing, we are seeking participants who will be able to attend and participate in the Edification worshop. The $5 non-refundable fee is for supply recovery.

Donations are always accepted and can be made here to help with all program needs.
