We Run Oakland: For Our Children
With our inaugural charity 5k run/walk in 2018, we began our journey of communal advocacy in an area that largely impacts African American women and girls: Human Trafficking Awareness. As we continue our mission to cultivate Black Excellence through the inspirations of African American women, it is important that we also do the work to ensure our children are healthy and whole. Taking on the role of advocate in the community, this civic engagement event provides us the opportunity to assist in the efforts of mitigating the perils of human trafficking; which is unfortunately impacting the African American community in the Oakland/Bay Area.
The We Run Oakland: For Our Children series is an annual family/community event designed to focus on our collective responsibility to STOP human trafficking. Through the partnerships of local organizations, the main goal is to bridge the gap between community, resources, and self-care.
On Saturday, September 19, 2020, DO & A Sista's Touch hosted our 3rd annual charity 5K to continue our efforts of raising Human Trafficking Awareness. Delivered in a virtual format, the community engagement was different, yet, still the same as our community-partners provided some great resources and education. For those who returned to join us again and even for our first time participants, we hope you were inspired to get involved with one of our partners, and more importantly, learned, that if you see something, say something.
Stay tuned for 2021!
