Sista’s Run Oakland
We Run Oakland: For Our Children

With our inaugural charity 5k run/walk in 2018, we began our journey of communal advocacy in an area that largely impacts African American women and girls: Human Trafficking Awareness. As we continue our mission to cultivate Black Excellence through the inspiration of African American women, it is important that we also do the work to ensure our children are healthy and whole. Taking on the role of an advocate in the community, this civic engagement event provides us the opportunity to assist in the efforts of mitigating the perils of human trafficking, which is, unfortunately, impacting the African American community in the Oakland/Bay Area in a significant way.
The We Run Oakland: For Our Children series is an annual family/community charity event focused on our collective responsibility to STOP human trafficking and exploitation. Through the partnerships of local organizations, the main goal is to bridge the gap between community, resources, and self-care.
DO & A Sista's Touch will host our 9th annual charity, 5K, on Saturday, August 22nd, at the Lake Merritt Amphitheater, to continue our efforts of raising Human Trafficking Awareness. We look forward to continuing the momentum of awareness, seeing returning participants, and welcoming those who will join us for the first time. We hope you will be inspired to stay involved and engaged with one of our community partners and, more importantly, learn that IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!

WRO is seeking Youth Leaders
WROYAL Applications are now open!
WROYAL is the youth leadership program of We Run Oakland, an annual community 5K that raises awareness about human trafficking and the importance of keeping young people safe.
WROYAL stands for We Run Oakland Youth Ambassador Leaders. This program is both a prevention program and a leadership development opportunity for youth.
We are inviting high school students in grades 9–12 who care about their community and want to make a difference to apply. As a WROYAL, youth will help plan the annual We Run Oakland: For Our Children 5K while working side by side with adult committee members.
WROYAL participants will learn how to:
-
Recognize unsafe situations and promote prevention
-
Speak up for themselves and others
-
Organize community events and projects
-
Build leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
Through this experience, youth will gain real-life skills, grow their confidence, and learn how to be voices of protection in their community. At the end of the program, participants will also receive a stipend in recognition of their time and leadership.
If you want to help raise awareness, protect your community, and grow as a leader, we encourage you to apply.
